Introduction
In Islam, magic and sorcery are strictly forbidden and considered major sins. In Shia sources, reciting specific Quranic verses and invoking prayers narrated from the Infallible Imams (a) are recommended to neutralize the effects of magic.
Nullifying Magic through Quranic Verses
The most reliable means to eliminate the effects of magic is the word of Almighty Allah. Reciting the following verses is highly recommended for this purpose:
1. Surah Yunus, Verse 81
Arabic transliteration: "Falamma alqaw qala Musa ma ji'tum bihis-sihr, innallaha sayubtiluh, innallaha la yuslihu amalal-mufsideen."
Meaning: "And when they had thrown, Moses said, 'What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters.'"
2. Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas)
According to narrations from the Prophet (s) and the Imams, regularly reciting Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas is essential for protection against all kinds of evil forces and magic.
Recommended Prayers in Shia Sources
In Sheikh Abbas Qummi's work "Mafatih al-Jinan", specific supplications narrated from Imam Ali (a) are mentioned for nullifying magic:
- Reciting Ayat al-Kursi daily after prayers.
- Reciting this supplication recommended by Imam Ali (a): "Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Bismillah wa billah, bismillah wa ma sha'Allah, bismillah wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah..."
